A man of his word...!

Judges 11:29-31, 34 NKJV

Then the Spirit of the Lord came upon Jephthah, and he passed through Gilead and Manasseh, and passed through Mizpah of Gilead; and from Mizpah of Gilead he advanced toward the people of Ammon. And Jephthah made a vow to the Lord , and said, “If You will indeed deliver the people of Ammon into my hands, then it will be that whatever comes out of the doors of my house to meet me, when I return in peace from the people of Ammon, shall surely be the Lord ’s, and I will offer it up as a burnt offering.” When Jephthah came to his house at Mizpah, there was his daughter, coming out to meet him with timbrels and dancing; and she was  his only child. Besides her he had neither son nor daughter.

Shalom! Day #138. Do you know that when you've made a covenant with God,  no matter may hinder you, you must make sure that you do your promise? Let's pray.  Father,  established our heart in integrity. Make us a man of our word. Let us not be a liar but be truthful to our words to You and to our surroundings. In Jesus name we ask and pray,  amen!

This verse is teaching us today to keep to our promises and to our word. When we give our word to someone or even to God, make sure that we do it, make sure we keep to our word and not break the promises or the word. A man of word, a man of integrity. As I was reading this word, you know,  God reminded of the promises we make to God at many times and at that many times we to break the promises. Not only to God,  but to our fellow friends as well. People respect us when you keep to your word. You don't promise one thing and do something or dont even do anything at all. I always labeled such people as politicians. Well sorry to say, not all politicians keep to their promises as well. Same goes to us. But in this verse today, we see how Jephthah, kept his promises to God.

Abraham, God asked him to sacrifice Isaac,  but in this case, Jephthah offered to God,  he made a deal or shall I say more like a covenant. He said if God delivers the people of Ammon into his hands, then it will be that whatever that comes out of the doors of his house as he return back from the war, he will sacrifice it. To his surprise, his only daughter came out to greet and meet him with timbrels and dancing not knowing that it is she that's going to be the burnt sacrifice. Yet, when Jephthah told his daughter,  she accepted it and was willing to be given to be sacrificed. You should know one thing, besides her, Jephthah has neither a son or a daughter. Jephthah kept to his word, and gave his daughter. Let us talk about our daily routine. When we have an appointment, let's say at 10am, we woke up late and we are already late, calls after calls, the phone is ringing,  and we answer, I'm at the junction, I'm at here or at there. Where is the integrity of our heart? When we promised someone something,  let's say for example, we promised to do something for a community,  but then when it comes to doing, we neglected it, we are nothing but a liar and people won't respect you at all. Why I labeled them as politicians because, politicians when it's nearing elections, they promised many things yet after when they have won, the promises remains just as a mere word. Do we have the integrity such as Jephthah? A man of his word? You have to rethink it again. God bless.

*** p/s : not all politicians are "politicians." There are a handful of them who really does what they say and promised. And today's sharing isn't about nailing the politicians, but it's about the integrity of our hearts.

Let this day be the day of the Lord!
